Welcome to our NEW and improved Ratings page!
Strassburger ENERGY STAR® energy-efficient windows will increase your level of comfort in your home, cut down noise levels from outside the home and have less condensation in cold weather. By reducing your home?s energy consumption, Strassburger ENERGY STAR® qualified windows also reduce greenhouse gas emissions that are contributing to climate change.
If all of the original windows and doors in an average older home were replaced by Strassburger ENERGY STAR qualified products, the household energy consumption would be reduced by about 7 percent, which would save three quarters of a tonne of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually. When Strassburger ENERGY STAR qualified windows are installed in an average new home, instead of conventional products, energy consumption can be reduced by about 12 percent.

Windows, doors and skylights are a major source of heat loss in Canadian homes. The complete Strassburger window line has been independently tested and certified, so installing them in your home will help reduce your energy consumption and save you money.
Installation of windows, doors and skylights (also known as fenestration products) is best left to a professional. A poorly installed fenestration products may not operate properly and could cause cold drafts, even if the product itself is energy efficient. Poor installation may also allow water to leak into the wall cavity, leading to costly damage. See our Dealer Locator for qualified installation referrals in your area.

For Strassburger to qualify for the ENERGY STAR® mark, our products must meet strict technical requirements for both thermal and structural performance. Products are qualified based on either their U-value (rate of heat transfer from a warm area to a cold area) or their Energy Rating (a scale that takes into account a product?s U-value, potential solar gain and air tightness). Windows, doors and skylights must also have good air tightness to qualify for ENERGY STAR®. To ensure the integrity of the ENERGY STAR® mark, all product testing is done by accredited laboratories under standardized, quality-controlled conditions.
The National Fenestration Rating Council, Incorporated ("NFRC") has developed and operates a uniform national rating system for the energy performance of fenestration products, including windows, doors, skylights, and similar products. The linchpin of the Rating System is a procedure for determining the thermal transmittance ("U-factor") of a product. The U-factor rating procedure is supplemented by procedures for rating products for solar heat gain coefficient ("solar heat gain" or "SHGC"), visible transmittance ("VT"), and condensation resistance ("CR"). Together, these rating procedures, as set forth in documents published by NFRC, are known as the NFRC Rating System.
The Rating System employs computer simulation and physical testing by NFRC-accredited laboratories to establish performance ratings for fenestration products and product lines. The Rating System is reinforced by two certification programs, one for residential and one for non-residential products, under which fenestration manufacturers or responsible parties may certify and label fenestration products to indicate those performance ratings.

What are the benefits of film certification?
This certification will give CPFilms increased credibility and increased value to the consumer in addition to demonstrating the commitment of CPFilms to show potential customers that we went the extra step to verify the energy performance of our products. This gives a level playing field for manufacturers, whether large or small, so they can show their products’ certified energy performance ratings. Certification was also necessary to enable the industry to work with the Dept. of Energy on developing Energy Star Qualified window film products. DOE needed a method of ensuring film on glass performance for qualified products before they would start working on an Energy Star program.

Why do Strassburger certify their products?
Mostly because we recognize that energy performance is very important to our customers, and we want to provide them with accurate and reliable information. In addition, NFRC Certified Products carry the NFRC Temporary Label that provides building inspectors the ability to confirm that the product meets or exceeds local energy code requirements. NFRC certification is strictly voluntary, although to meet the criteria for becoming an ENERGY STAR® product according to the federal government, a product must be NFRC-certified. |
